This picture shows a part of the UVES spectrum with an emission band from the CN radical.






This picture is an enlarged view of the high-resolution CN spectrum (blue line) compared to a "synthetic"
spectrum based on theoretical calculations (black line) without (top) and with (bottom) the rare isotopic species.
¹³C¹⁴N (red ticks) and ¹²C¹⁵N (blue ticks) emission lines are indicated. They are used for the determination
of the carbon-13 and nitrogen-15 abundances.






Comet LINEAR A2 splits further : Three nuclei are visible on this image obtained in the
early evening of May 16, 2001, with the 8.2-m VLT YEPUN (UT4) telescope at Paranal.
